Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS)

Fibromyagia syndrome (FMS) is a disease in which people hurt all over, all the time. People with fibromyalgia have very tense muscles with many hardened spots, commonly called knots. Some of the knots may be trigger points. The causes of fibromyalgia are often unclear, and there are many theories. There may be multiple causes.

Massage therapy can be helpful for symptom relief, however lasting improvement from massage therapy alone is rare. People with fibromylgia need to consider changing what they eat & drink, and look at possible influences of past trauma.

Vegan diet alleviates fibromyalgia symptoms - Scandinavian Journal of Rheumatolagy
The effect of a strict, low-salt, uncooked vegan diet rich in lactobacteria on symptoms in 18 fibromyalgia patients during and after a 3-month intervention period in an open, non-randomized controlled study was evaluated. As control 15 patients continued their omnivorous diet. The groups did not differ significantly from each other in the beginning of the study in any other parameters except in pain and urine sodium. The results revealed significant improvements in visual analogue scale of pain, joint stiffness, quality of sleep, Health assessment questionnaire, General health questionnaire, and a rheumatologist's own questionnaire. The majority of patients were overweight to some extent at the beginning of the study and shifting to a vegan food caused a significant reduction in body mass index. Total serum cholesterol showed a statistically significant lowering. Urine sodium dropped to 1/3 of the beginning values indicating good diet compliance. It can be concluded that vegan diet had beneficial effects on fibromyalgia symptoms at least in the short run.

Fibromyalgia syndrome improved using a mostly raw vegetarian diet: An observational study - BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine
Thirty people participated in a dietary intervention using a mostly raw, pure vegetarian diet. The diet consisted of raw fruits, salads, carrot juice, tubers, grain products, nuts, seeds, and a dehydrated barley grass juice product.
Significant improvements were seen in shoulder pain at rest and after motion, abduction range of motion of shoulder, flexibility, chair test, and 6-minute walk.

Plant Foods for Human Nutrition

This study didn't produce much improvement in fibromyalgia with a vegetarian diet. Since the diet was described as vegetarian rather than vegan, I'm guessing they included dairy products. Bangladesh diet is similar to Indian diet, which uses lots of dairy. Since dairy causes pain for many people, that could be why this study didn't help people. See Food Allergies.
